Dr. Katherine Guevara
Zen Hen Chicken Yoga is a dream come true for founder Dr. Katherine Guevara. She is a certified yoga instructor and mindfulness facilitator, chicken fanatic, and all-around cool chick. Outside of her work in academia, she spends time cultivating her urban garden backyard farm in Los Angeles and sharing way too many fascinating chicken facts with anyone who will listen. For children, or your own inner child, she also publishes Kula Tales yoga coloring books.

FAQ
What is Chicken Yoga?
Chicken Yoga is a transformative experience that combines traditional yoga practices with the playful presence of friendly chickens (hens only, no roosters) allowing participants to connect with nature and enjoy a unique yoga experience in the serene, private backyard garden of an historic 1892 Victorian house. It's a delightful way to relax and laugh while reaping the benefits of yoga and mindfulness. Classes are intimate experiences limited to 8 people. Chickens will be freely roaming around during the 45-minute session and you may hand feed them the provided snacks during the 15-minute post-class interaction/photo time. Remember, chickens don't have teeth so it's impossible for them to bite!
Do I need prior experience?
No prior yoga or meditation experience is required to join our classes! We welcome participants of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned yoginis, ensuring everyone finds joy, breath, and movement amidst our feathered friends. Seated chair yoga is available with advanced request for those whose bodies need that instead of being on a mat on the ground. You will almost always be treated to complimentary fruit, veg, or flowers to take home when/if it is in season in the garden, but you will not be picking it yourself. Eggs are not free and hens determine any availability for offering eggs for sale. These are adult-only classes for those 18+ years old - no children. If you're looking for something for children, check out our Kula Tales Yoga Coloring Books.
What should I bring?
Gardens are naturally dirty and have insects. Chickens are animals that do what they want, not what we want, and they poop. You should wear old, comfortable clothing and easy-to-slip-off shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Free street parking is available. Don't leave valuables in your car - we have a place to store your bag in the garden and you'll need your phone for photos. There is no bathroom so plan accordingly. Yoga mats, wet wipes, and approved chicken snacks are provided for you. Bring water if you need it. Chickens do not like screaming, chasing, forced pick up, or strong scents from perfume or chemical bug spray. Please do not bring guests or children - registered adult participants only. Don’t forget your sense of humor!
