FAQ
What is Chicken Yoga?
Chicken Yoga is a transformative experience that combines traditional yoga practices with the playful presence of friendly chickens (hens only, no roosters) allowing participants to connect with nature and enjoy a unique yoga experience in the serene, private backyard garden of an historic 1892 Victorian house. It's a delightful way to relax and laugh while reaping the benefits of yoga and mindfulness. Classes are intimate experiences limited to 8 people. Chickens will be freely roaming around during the 40-minute session and you may hand feed them the provided snacks (no outside snacks!) during the 20-minute post-class interaction/photo time. Remember, chickens don't have teeth so it's impossible for them to bite!
What's yoga vs meditation?
Choose yoga if you're looking for more movement. Choose meditation if you prefer less movement, or you seek serene stillness and contemplation focused on your breath. In yoga sessions, we practice beginner-friendly, slow-flow yoga poses. In meditation sessions, we remain seated or laying down for a variety of beginner-friendly, guided meditation/mindfulness styles.
Do I need prior experience?
No prior yoga or meditation experience is required to join our classes! We welcome participants of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned yoginis, ensuring everyone finds joy, breath, and movement amidst our feathered friends. Seated chair yoga is available with advanced request for those whose bodies need that instead of being on a mat on the ground. These are adult-only classes for those 18+ years old - no children. If you're looking for something for children, check out our Kula Tales Yoga Coloring Books.
What should I expect?
There is *NO BATHROOM* so plan accordingly for your 1-hour session. We do have a rustic hand-washing station. Gardens are naturally sunny, dirty and have insects. Chickens are animals that do what they want, not what we want, and they poop. The hens are friendly and will mind their own business going about their routine during the session, but come right over to you for a snack during post-session time. Chickens do not like screaming, chasing, forced pick up, or strong scents from perfume or chemical bug spray. You will often be treated to complimentary fruit, veg, herbs, or flowers to take home when/if it is in season in the garden, but you will not be picking it yourself. Eggs are not free and hens determine any availability for offering eggs for sale at our little farm stand.
Should I bring a mat?
No. Yoga mats are provided to all participants to use for the experience. If you really must use your own mat, remember that it will get dirty and possibly stained. For meditation sessions, both a yoga mat and a meditation cushion or blanket are provided.
What should I wear/bring?
Old, comfortable clothing and easy-to-slip-off shoes you don't mind getting dirty. For added protection from naturally-occuring garden sun exposure and insects, long sleeves and long pants you can move in are recommended. You will be stretching and bending in yoga poses. There is a small rack for your bag; please do not bring large bags. If you need water, bring your own, refillable water bottle. We provide mats, wet wipes, and chicken snacks. Don't forget your phone/camera for photos!
Where do I park?
Free street parking is available. You may need 15 minutes to look for a parking spot and get to our location, so plan accordingly, We are located in a residential neighborhood near Downtown Los Angeles/USC. The exact address is provided upon booking. Do not leave valuables in your car; we provide a small rack for storing your bag inside the garden.
What are your policies?
You can cancel your booking up to 24 hours before session start time for a full refund; if you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, there is no refund so you are charged in full. You cannot transfer your session booking to someone else nor can you purchase on behalf of someone else because each participant must sign their own liability waiver and photo release upon booking for themselves. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated and will be charged in full; the gate locks promptly at session start time. There are no refunds for no shows, or if you leave a session early. We do not share or sell our client information.
What if I'm running late?
We start on time and the gate locks exactly at the start time indicated on your booking. For example, a 1:00pm class starts at 1:00pm. Late arrivals cannot be accomodated or refunded. Plan ahead for Los Angeles traffic and enough time to find parking! Gate opens 15 minutes before session start times.
No. All unregistered participants will be turned away. Each authorized participant has pre-signed a participation waiver upon booking. These are adult-only experiences for ages 18+. If you're looking for something for children, check out our Kula Tales yoga coloring books.
